Alexander Zverev defeated world number one Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 to win the prestigious ATP Finals in London
The German is still yet to reach a Grand Slam semi-finals, but victory in the event – which pits together tennis’ top eight seeds – along with legend Roger Federer potentially soon to retire, could be a catalyst for a sparkling career at the top.
Zverev was the underdog going into the showpiece final, with Djokovic securing a routine 6-4, 6-1 victory against the 21 year-old in the Round Robin stage.
The Australian Open in January will provide Zverev with the opportunity to finally remedy his underwhelming record on the Grand Slam stage.
The German has shown progression in recent years, reaching the third round, yet the quarter-finals stage still remains elusive.
A first ATP title could certainly be a springboard for an illustrious career in the game.
