Roger Federer started his ATP Finals campaign with victory over American Jack Sock.
With Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic absent, the attention on ATP Finals is largely on fan favourite Roger Federer. The Swiss has had a strong 2017 so far, winning the Australian Open and following up that triumph with a record eighth Wimbledon crown.
Federer is just one of the 8 competing in the London spectacle, joining World Number One Rafa Nadal, Jack Sock, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin as the world’s highest-ranked players battle it out for the season-ending title.
Roger Federer opened with a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) victory against 25 year old Jack Sock at the O2 Arena. The tournament is the American’s debut at ATP Finals after victory at the Paris Masters last week saw him qualify at the last possible moment.
In the day’s other match up, young sensation Alexander Zverev had to endure a tough game with the experienced Croatian Marin Cilic, but the German managed to comeback from an early setback and win 4-6 6-3 6-4.
