Matt Davis and the Solent basketball team have started the season brightly, currently laying in 2nd place in the league.
The captain has been instrumental in this run, leading the team to a great record of 5 wins and 1 loss in the BUCS league.
Despite his recent success for Team Solent, we have to go back to when Davis was only 7-years-old. After taking part in a casual game of basketball, his love for the game grew.
Since then, the small forward has had stints at the Reading Rockets and at UCAM Murcia in Spain.
He is now on a scholarship helping team Solent to achieve their objectives, but it could have been very different had Solent’s offer not been good enough.
But now here in Southampton, Matt Davis is looking forward to the rest of season and is targeting a league and cup double.
‘We won the league last year so we would like to do it again and we got to the semi-final but lost in over time so we want to go further this time’
Such ambitious targets are a norm for Davis, with manager Sylvain Donneaud recognising his competitive mentality.
“He’s a leader on the court, he’s also a winner. He just wants to win and is very aggressive on the court.”
Matt Davis is a vital member of the team and he will have to be at his best on the 28th November, when Team Solent face unbeaten side and the only team so far to beat Solent, East London.
Despite the talent of Matt and the rest, Sylvain hopes a big crowd can turn up to encourage and push the team forward.
