Che’s Stay leaves the Saints feeling Blue

What do Southampton have in common with 5 teams in the top six? Well according to the Premier League, statistics show that the Saints have had 327 shots this season… that ranks them in sixth place behind the top teams in the league.

The key difference is that the South Coast side has only scored 27, leaving them 14th in the Premier League ranking for goals scored, and after the January Transfer Window has just ended, the Saints may feel an attacking strain towards the end of the season.

Tough games are on the horizon for the South Coast side, and with the likes of Danny Ings Injured, Manolo Gabbiadini sold to Sampdoria, Shane Long out of form and Charlie Austin not key in Hasenhuttl plans, goals look to be premium.

Southampton have only scored 3 or more goals in a premier league match only twice in the past two seasons, another cause for concern.

Therefore this all points to the move of Che Adams, however Saints were frustrated in their pursuit of the Birmingham City striker, refusing to pay £15 million.

SECOND ONE

Saints Boss feeling the heat of Deadline Day, hearing the news that Peter Crouch is on his way to Burnley… their next opponents in the League.

But can we blame the Saints? Quality was lacking, seeing a record price drop since 2012, compared to the record January transfer window last year with 430 million spent. Therefore , focus turns to the pitch.

Southampton Boss Luke Henry expresses his concerns about not just his side in the transfer market but other clubs lack of transfer activity also too.

Sky Sports News Presenter Mark McAdam echoed his views about the Saints side saying “ Perhaps maybe, people were actually questioning the squad, which needed the right manager to come in and get the best out of the players which is what we have seen under Hasenhuttl… which takes the pressure of when it comes to signing players”

According to sports Business group Deloitte, reasons such as Premier League clubs being financially stronger than ever, reduced activity from the” top six” clubs and the lack of sustained value in the window has meant we have a quiet month compared to usual.

So have we witnessed something for the future, has the January transfer window changed? We even saw a record amount of loan deals occur rather than permanent ones too.  Are clubs now too afraid to splash out on players mid season unless they really need too?

Only time will tell, however for the Saints, it could just prove to be too little to late come may.
