Eastleigh star, Luke Coulson has sacrificed his place in the England C squad in favour of helping Eastleigh in their FA Cup replay at Swindon on Tuesday.
Coulson’s great form for the Spitfires this term hasn’t gone unnoticed and last month the winger was called up to the England C squad for the International Challenge Trophy group match against Estonia.
However, Eastleigh’s valiant draw last Friday against Swindon has put the winger into a predicament, as both games fall on the same day.
Nobody would hold any grudges against Coulson if he chose to play for England. How often would you be given the chance to represent your country at this level?
But chairman Stewart Donald sensationally announced that Coulson has indeed chosen to play for Eastleigh in the FA Cup.
“Coulson will be playing against Swindon. He wants to play in the FA Cup.”
The St-Helens born wide man has contributed with six goals in 13 appearances and has been a key man for the south coast club this season.
Manager Ronnie Moore was delighted with Coulson’s decision.
“It’s fantastic he wants to stay and play. At the end of the day, we pay his wages, but this was Luke’s decision and I’m sure the England set-up understand.”
Moore believes that this England C call up isn’t just a ‘one-off’ and Coulson will continue getting the recognition he deserves.
“We have great faith in Luke and he will get other opportunities, there’s no doubt about that.”
A home tie against either Halifax or Dagenham and Redbridge is the reward for the winner of Tuesday’s replay at the County Ground.
