Team Solent Rugby Men’s Team have received a boost in quality with the new intake of players, according to coach Sheridan Easton.
The team made a great start to the BUCS season with a 44-0 drubbing of local rivals University of Southampton 3rd Team at Test Park on Wednesday.
Easton’s side blew their opponents away with seven tries and two conversions to send them flying to the top of the Western 4A table.
With a flurry of talent coming in throughout the summer, the coach believes it will only help the team.
“The new players have brought a vitality to the team and competition for places,” Easton stated. “The old guard definitely can’t rest on their laurels.”
Speaking about Wednesday’s win, the Solent University lecturer was keen to heap praise on the whole squad.
“I’m really pleased with the performance. It’s a very good start to the season and the whole squad pulled their weight to deliver a great performance.”
Alex Burnham, the team captain, echoed his coach’s views and set a target for the team to have a glorious season.
“Our main aim is to win the league. Team spirit is really high as is confidence and it is good to start the season with a winning mentality.”
Solent continue their title challenge away to University of Exeter’s Seventh Team and Burnham is hopeful of getting a big victory.
“Not conceding on Wednesday was a massive bonus and an early win against a possible title rival will be great.”
