SOUTHAMPTON City council have teamed up with travel experts My Journey this week, to encourage people to walk 10 million steps.
People in Southampton can visit the city centre between Tuesday 10th and Saturday 14th October to get involved.
The main challenge is to swap one short car journey, for 10 million steps.
For every day that you walk at least 5,000 steps, a free voucher is given to you to spend at Mettricks Café for bringing the campaign closer to their overall target.
If you participate for the full five days, there will be more rewards for you to enjoy.
To track your steps, you can collect a free pedometer from the stand outside West Quay shopping centre, or use a smartphone or any health tracker/fitness app.
Once you have reached the goal, you can record your steps and claim the prize.
We spoke to Char, who is a representative for My Journey, who said:
“This is aimed at the kind of people who would take the car for a short journey, there are quite a lot of people in Southampton who are already very active, so we want to promote that.”
My Journey have included two competitions alongside their campaign.
One of these is a prize draw, in which you could win a Fitbit to continue counting your footsteps.
The other is a photo competition to win £250.
To participate, use the hashtag #StepUpSouthampton or @myjourneyhampshire on Twitter.
The winner will be announced on Facebook on Monday 30th October.
When visiting the stand in Southampton, make sure you have a look at the health and well-being stand which is also part of this campaign.
You can pick up leaflets, as well as get information from professionals to work towards a healthier you.
This is a great event to get involved in, so make sure you turn up between 10am and 4pm to show your steps.
