SOUTHAMPTON has welcomed the Heinz Beanz bus to West Quay today in celebration of being one of the top ten cities in the UK to eat the most beans.
The first 50 visitors can get their hands on one of the limited-edition cans with the ‘BEANZ MEANZ SOTON’ label on. This is due to Southampton being the ninth ranked city for eating the most beans in the UK.
The bus can easily be identified through its unique slogan ‘BEANZ MEANZ HEINZ’ which has been part of the Heinz company since 1967 when produced by Henry J Heinz and L Clarence Noble.
You can also get a can personalised with your name of choice on for £1.50, plus free postage and packaging. This is produced through an iPad app, in which you can choose from a variety of selected recipes such as chorizo, bacon pieces, feta cheese and tomatoes.
Heinz is the world’s fourth biggest food and drink brand, behind Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Nescafe.
According to the Daily Echo, one in five people in Southampton put cans in their suitcase before they travel.
54% say they eat beans at least once a week, and 20% eat them two to three times a week.
The bus visited West Quay South esplanade from 10am to 6pm on Wednesday. It travels to Cardiff on Friday followed by the top ranked bean-eating city, Birmingham early next week.
