Southampton FC: Reconstruction

After the decision to sack vice-chairman Les Reed, and technical director, Martin Hunter on Thursday, Southampton FC are beginning to re-build.

Despite Reed overseeing The Saints gain promotion to the Premier League, and debut in the Europa League, their form in recent seasons has forced Chinese owner, Gao Jisheng to re-think the hierarchy at the club.

After just one win this season, Southampton currently lay 16th in The Premier League, and manager Mark Hughes is now under increased pressure to turn their form around.

Saints have only scored 15 goals in 19 games under Hughes, who face Watford at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Defeat could spell the end for the former Stoke boss, but club legend Francis Benali says the club is still in a transition phase.

He Said: “Mark Hughes has been here for some time now with his staff, working that philosophy into the team.

“It’s an evolving thing, we haven’t had the start that naturally we would have liked, with points that we’ve let slip – especially at St Mary’s.

“Just fine margins at the moment that are stopping things going in our favour, but I can hopefully see that changing Saturday.”

Southampton fans, however, have run out of patience with Hughes.
