SOUTHAMPTON City Council has announced an additional 45 roads that will benefit from an £8million road resurfacing and improvement package.

For the 2023/24 programme year, the locations selected are those with the greatest need for maintenance. Some of the roads on the list include Mill Road, Alder Road, Midanbury Crescent, Richmond Street, Chichester Road, Poole Road and Deeping Close.

It was agreed that a further £5million would be invested into Southampton’s highways in this month’s budget, in addition to the current council plans to resurface carriageways and footways across the city until the end of March 2023.

A proportion of this will be added to existing planned funding for 2023/24 which will see nearly £8m of potential highway works to be delivered.

Footways 2023 is currently being prepared and an announcement will be made later this year. This comes after the city’s pothole patrol teams have been on the move and completing the necessary work to fix potholes.

These teams are being funded through an additional £830,000 which was allocated to establish a network of dedicated pothole repair crews across the city. It comes after data from theclunkerjunker.com revealed that Southampton has the fourth-highest amount of online pothole complaints in the country
