TWO PEOPLE were killed last night after a crash on the M271. All emergency services were called to the scene and were there for over twelve hours. Madeline Milton reports.
The crash involved three lorries and a car. Both the passenger and driver in the car died, the lorry drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Southampton General Hospital.
Following the crash, the northbound and southbound lanes between the M27 junction three and the A33 Redbridge road have been closed.
The northbound lanes were reopened last night while southbound lanes remained closed until this morning.
Traffic continues to be disrupted today, with tailbacks as far as Junction 14 on the M27.
Motorists in Southampton should be expecting delays throughout the day.
Timeline of events:
Just before 5:30pm: Three lorries and a car involved in accident, killing two people on the M271.
5:30pm: All emergency services called to the scene. Including Firefighters from Redbridge, St Marys, Totton and as far as Cosham.
Motorway closed both ways between the M27 junction three, Nursling the A33 Redbridge Road
Traffic tailed back as far as the M27 junction fourteen.
